BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the decision whether people will live an independent life will depend on the December 30 national elections
There is no level-playing field and congenial atmosphere in the country for the December 30 national election. The election will decide whether we would lead an independent life or to be chained,” Fakhrul said at an election rally in Syedpur of Nilphamari this noon.
From the rally, the BNP leader also called upon members of the different law enforcement agencies to create a congenial atmosphere ahead of the upcoming general election so that people can cast the votes in a free and fair manner.
He blasted the law enforcement agencies for their “partisan” role and said, “It seems to us that the law enforces are doing Awami League s jobs instead of maintaining the country s rule and order.”
The government is afraid of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and thus it has confined her jail 10 months before the national election, he said Accusing the government of hatching conspiracy ahead of the polls, Fakhrul said leaders and activists of the BNP and the Jatiya Oikyafront will foil the plot facing all sorts of challenges.
Meanwhile, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed, at a press briefing, alleged that the government has handed over some lists of its leaders and activists to the law enforcement agencies to keep them behind the bar until the national election.
“We came to know that the drive to arrest activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance will be intensified from tonight. The home ministry has already handed over lists of the alliance leaders and activists to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab),” Rizvi alleged.
Speaking at the press conference held at the party s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka, Rizvi said he has information that the poling agents of “Sheaf of Paddy” would be arrested before one or two days of the election.
