BNP extended its support to independent candidate Salma Islam in Dhaka-1 constituency on Friday to fill the gap created by the cancellation of its aspirants’ candidacy in some constituencies.
Salma Islam will face Grand Alliance candidate Salman F Rahman in this important constituency.
Former state minister women and children affairs and Jatiya Party Presidium Member Salma Islam is also the current MP from this constituency.
BNP also extended its support to another independent candidate--- Rezaul Karim Bablu in Bogura-7, BNP chairperson s media wing staff Syrul Kabir Khan told the media.
BNP leaders and activists were asked to work for the BNP-supported candidates in these constituencies, said Syrul Kabir.
Grand Alliance candidate Salman F Rahman is the vice-chairman of Beximco Group and also the owner of daily Independent and Independent TV. He is also the private sector development affairs advisor of Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina.
Independent candidate Salma is one of the directors of Jamuna Group and Jamuna TV and publisher of the daily Jugantor. She is also the wife of Jamuna Group chairman Nurul Islam Babul.
Independent candidate Rezaul Karim Bablu is going to contest with Grand Alliance candidate JP MP Mohammad Altaf Ali with truck symbol in Bogra-7 constituency.
Apart from this, Ferdous Ara Khan, wife of Upazila Awami League president AH Azam Khan, is contesting as another independent candidate with Dab symbol in this constituency.
