BJPs firebrand MLA Ravinder Raina took charge as the new Jammu and Kashmir BJP president in Jammu today after receiving a grand welcome from party workers. Thousands of BJP activists greeted him outside the airport. Later in the day, Ravinder Raina was felicitated by top state BJP leaders at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar.

The function was attended by Deputy CM Kavindra Gupta, outgoing state BJP chief and Housing Minister Sat Pal Sharma, other senior leaders and thousands of party workers. Ravinder Raina was garlanded by party leaders and a traditional Dogri turban was tied on his head.

Many BJP leaders presented him swords while honouring him at the function. Addressing the gathering, Deputy CM Kavindra Gupta expressed hope that the new state BJP chief will take the party to new heights.

"We extend our good wishes to Ravinder Raina. His young and dynamic leadership will infuse more energy in party workers", said Kavindra Gupta.

The Deputy CM also recalled the role played by previous party presidents in the state. The outgoing President Sat Pal Sharma too hailed the leadership qualities of Ravinder Raina.

"We are hopeful that under Ravinder Rainas leadership, the party will fulfill its Mission 44+ in the next assembly elections in the state and form the government on its own," said Sat Pal Sharma.

Acknowledging the good wishes of senior leaders, Ravinder Raina expressed his gratitude to the party high command for reposing faith in him and giving him the responsibility of state BJP chief. Ravinder Raina also sought the cooperation of his state party leaders and workers while delivering a passionate speech.

"Our only goal is to strengthen the nation and serve Bharat Mata. We are even ready to give our lives for the nation," said Raina.

The new BJP president also recalled the bravery of legendary Dogra warrior General Zorawar Singh. "Dogras are a brave community. We have the power to unfurl the Tricolour not only in PoK, but even in Lahore," he added.

Speaking exclusively to India Today, Ravinder Raina said the Modi government was not soft on terrorism. Defending the Modi government s Ramzan ceasefire decision, he said that it was not a unilateral ceasefire, but only a conditional ceasefire.

"Our security forces will give a befitting reply to terrorists in case they dare to attack our jawans," said Ravindra Raina. Echoing Ravinder Raina, states Deputy CM Kavindra Gupta said that the Centres ceasefire move wont demoralise security forces.

"Our security forces reserve the right to retaliate if attacked by terrorists", said Kavindra Gupta told India Today.
