Bangladesh has sent the first consignment of essential medicines to Bhutan as committed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Officials from the Bhutanese embassy in Dhaka and their health ministry received the consignment weighing 35 tonnes at the Burimari Land Port on Thursday, the embassy said in a press release. They will take the medicines to Bhutan from there, according to the release.
A symbolic handover ceremony of the medicines took place between Bhutanese ambassador Sonam T Rabgye and Health Minister Mohammed Nasim in Dhaka on July 23.
A total of 258 types of essential medicines will be delivered to Bhutan by the end of the year, which was committed by Hasina during her state visit to Bhutan in April last year.
The second and third consignments will be sent in October and November.
“This project is yet another example of the very close ties of friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and Bhutan,” the press release said.
