Wildlife and nature conservation wing of forests department on Monday rescued two Alexandrine parakeets and four Eurasian collared doves from an illegal bird seller at Arjatpara of Tejgaon in Dhaka.
Wildlife inspector Nigar Sultana told New Age that she concealing her identity went to the bird seller tried to learn the price of the birds.
The bird seller, still unidentified, first said he would charge Tk 30,000 for each Alexandrine parakeet.
In the midst of bargaining, he fled the spot sensing possible arrest, Nigar said.
The two bird species are enlisted in the IUCN Red List 2016.
According to Bangladesh’s Wildlife Protection Act 2012, poaching or selling of endangered species is punishable.
Nigar said that Dhaka divisional forest officer Jahir Uddin Akon sent the rescued birds to Gazipur National Park for their release.
