Film screening and discussion series named ‘Through Her Eyes - a space to watch and discuss films with women filmmakers of Bangladesh’ was launched through screening of Rubaiyat Hossain’s Under Construction on Sunday at Goeth-Institut. Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, in cooperation with the International Film Initiative of Bangladesh (IFIB), launched the initiative with a view to promoting women filmmakers from Bangladesh.
On the opening day of the monthly screening and discussion programme, Rubaiyat Hossain’s Under Construction was screened and a discussion was held on the film.
The screening was attended by Goethe-Institut Bangladesh director Kirsten Hackenbroch, International Film Initiative of Bangladesh (IFIB) president Samia Zaman, filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain and others.
’Through Her Eyes wants to promote women filmmakers from Bangladesh, who will screen their films and be available for a Q and A session with the audience. The monthly programme will be a space for young filmmakers, academics and students, film enthusiasts to engage in discussion, to learn about career paths and opportunities and to critically interrogate societal relations,’ said Kirsten Hackenbroch.
’IFIB tries to work with young filmmakers for capacity building. The series ’Through Her Eyes’, created to watch and discuss films made by women filmmakers of Bangladesh, is a part of that process. The initiative would encourage the current and future women filmmakers in their creative journey,’ said Samia Zaman.
