Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon has described as unfortunate Shakib Al Hasan’s absence from the team’s official photo session, the jersey-unveiling ceremony and the last practice session for the World Cup. But the BCB will not take any action against the cricketer at this moment considering the team’s departure on Wednesday for the triangular series in Ireland and the ICC Cricket World Cup-England and Wales, “There is no question of stomaching such obduracy. The team is going to leave the country the day after tomorrow. So, I don’t want to talk about the topic right now,” said Papon.

“But, definitely, I think it"s an unhappy development,” he added. The BCB president was talking to the media after the team"s photo session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) at Mirpur yesterday. Papon was flanked by BCB directors Jalal Younus, Mahbubul Anam, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, Hanif Bhuiyan, I H Mallick, Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Akram Khan, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, Advocate Anwarul Islam, Alamgir Khan Alo and BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury. The World Cup-bound Bangladesh squad and its coaching staff were also present.

The team held its second and final practice session at the SBNCS and its indoor stadium. After that, ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza spoke to the media at the pre-tour press conference at the media block of the SBNCS. The World Cup squad was officially launched before the photo session.

Shakib was not present in the last practice session. He was neither available available at the official launch nor at the photo session. His absence raised eyebrows in the media.

The iconic all-rounder returned home from the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday night to join the last practice session. He came to meet his teammates just before the practice session, but went back home before the photo session and the new jersey-unveiling ceremony.
