Young filmmaker Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s internationally-acclaimed debut feature film titled ‘Live from Dhaka’ is going to be released at Star Cineplex of Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in the capital tomorrow.
Produced by Khelna Chobi, the film’s cinematography is done by Tuhin Tamijul and the film’s sound is designed by Sayba Talukder.
With the runtime of 94 minutes, the film revolves around the character of physically handicapped Sazzad, who has just lost all his money in a recent stock market crash. Struggling to survive and hounded by loan sharks, he no longer knows how to deal with his girlfriend Rehana, and his drug-addicted brother, Michael. As the pressure mounts, Sazzad becomes increasingly desperate to find any means to escape from Dhaka and his troubles, sinking deeper into the darkness of his soul. Saad portrays the pressure-cooker reality of living and surviving in Dhaka.
Shot in grainy black and white, and featuring a powerful performance by actor Mostafa Monwar in the role of Sazzad, Saad paints a riveting and complex portrait of a man pushed to his very extreme and his struggle between morality and the instinct for self-preservation.
The cast of the film includes Mostafa Monwar, Tasnova Tamanna, Tanvir Ahmed Chowdhury, Mir Mosharrof Hossen, Shimul Joy, Ujjal Afjal, Rony Sazzad, Hasan Shahid, Prema Ripu, Arif Haque and Mashuk Qureshi.
To note, ’Live from Dhaka’ won Best Actor and Best Director awards at the 27th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) and has been screened at various international film festivals of the world.
