A lawmaker of opposition Jatiya Party today raised question before the parliament for making former Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan as head of a committee formed to prevent road accidents.
“Committee on illegal drug control is headed by Bodi [controversial former Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi] and committee to prevent road accidents is headed by Shahjahan Khan, who earlier said ’a driver does not need to be educated to get a driving licence, if he can differentiate between a cow and a goat, he can get license’,” JP MP Fakhrul Imam said while raising a supplementary question.
A 15-member committee was formed yesterday, led by Shahjahan Khan, to give recommendations for preventing road accidents and bringing discipline in the road transport sector.
In reply, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the person is not important in this context.
“As he is an experienced person, he was made the head of the committee. Besides, nobody opposed when his name was proposed as the committee chief,” Quader said.
