Saiful Islam, a student of Class X, is 15 years old. Hailing from a poor family, he had lost all hopes to make it big in life. But he finally managed to battle all odds and found success through freelancing. Son of Sahjahan Ali of Chunia village in the Madhupur forest area of Tangail district, Islam’s expertise lies in web development and design, SEO, graphics and blog. Talking to this correspondent, he said he started to learn designing in 2015. But since he didn’t have a computer, he learnt everything on his mobile.
“I did not know that income can be generated through the internet. I was introduced to Facebook in 2016. I wrote articles on SEOs. I also got the idea of structure of a website and how to work with clients through YouTube. I started to work with full knowledge since 2019. I haven"t looked back since then. My family was unable to pay my education expenses and meet my other needs. At first, I got USD 6 for a job, which inspired me.
Then I got an order of a business card and started working on web development and design. Now, I earn Tk. 40,000 to 50,000 per month,” said Islam. Islam studies during the day and allots some times to freelancing at night. “Strong willpower, patience, labour and humility are needed for freelancing,” Saiful told the correspondent.
Bangladeshi freelancers are doing well and getting work orders. Proper training can bring more youths to the profession. Saiful wants the government to impart training to youths and provide internet facilities in rural areas. He appealed to youngsters not to lose heart and have patience to do well in life.
