Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on Thursday came under fire of the party activists over announcing programme for the release of the party's imprisoned chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The agitated leaders and activists of BNP and its fronts shouted from the audience asking why programme for BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release is not being spelled out as well as asking for dissolving the committee of BNP.
BNP organised the discussion at Institution of Engineers’, Bangladesh marking the Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day.
As the participation in the discussion was thin and many chairs in the auditorium were empty.
Mirza Fakhrul pausing his speech asked the agitated activists to stop shouting and hold patience.
He told them that programme would be given and everything will be in order. Announcing programme is not enough rather it has to be executed, he said.
Fakhrul said the party’s senior leaders feel agony and pain of the activists.
The secretary general who presided over the discussion said one thing has to understand that when a democratic force fight against fascism then achieving success is not so easy.
Fakhrul asked the angry activists why they were thinking that they became failed. ’You have never failed. You have achieved victory,’ he told the leaders and activists.
The AL only gave lip service of democracy but never believed in democracy and killed democracy again and again, he said.
During the address of standing committee member Moudud Ahmed some activists chanted slogans demanding the release of Khaleda who was sentenced to five year in jail in a graft case by a Dhaka special judge’s court.
The angry activists also wanted to know why there is no programme for release of Khaleda.
Responding to them, Moudud said all are agreed on this matter.
He told them that they have to implement the slogan.
Moudud said Khaleda Zia is very ill so she could not appear before the court on Wednesday.
Moudud said Khaleda’s release is not possible through legal process but her release is possible only through movement.
So BNP has to adopt a well-thought programme so that they could free Khaleda.
Moudud urged for taking the vow that BNP’s only agenda is the release of Khaleda.
BNP leaders including Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Abdullah Al Noman addressed the discussion jointly conducted by assistant organising secretary Abdus Salam Azad and assistant publicity secretary Amirul Islam Alim.
