All TV channels in the country are set to go on air using Bangabandhu Satellite-1 by the next May 12, 2019, said Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.
The minister came up with the declaration after a meeting with the leaders of Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO), the private TV channel owners association of Bangladesh at the secretariat on Monday.
’The first anniversary of launching Bangabandhu Satellite-1 will reach the mark at May 12 this year. All the TV channels of our country will be telecast using Bangabandhu Satellite-1 by May 12 this year. The authority of Bangabandhu Satellite will provide services free of cost for the first three months.’ He said.
He also said, ’The price of the service, provided by the authority of Bangabandhu Satellite-1, will be determined after the discussion with all relevant bodies’.
Along with Salman F Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s adviser on private industry and investment, Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Shajahan Mahmud, Chairman of Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL), Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Maasranga TV, Harun-or-Rashid, Chairman of Asian TV and Iqbal Sobahan Chowdhury, Chairman of DBC News, senior bodies of different TV Channels were present at the meeting.
