The density of the dengue-carrying Aedes mosquito in Dhaka has increased 13 times compared to what it was before the rainy season within a span of just four months, said sources in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). “Not only has the number of adult Aedes mosquitoes increased but the density of larvae, too, is much higher than before the beginning of the season. But the number of adult Aedes mosquitoes will increase further if the larvae manage to survive,” noted a survey conducted by the DGHS.
