Marking the World Puppet Theatre Day, which was observed on March 21, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has organised a five-day puppet festival titled ‘National Puppet Theatre Festival’ on the academy premises in Segun Bagicha of the capital.
On March 21, a discussion session followed by an award ceremony and puppet show was held at the Experimental theatre hall of BSA.
Presided over by BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, eminent artiste Mustafa Monwar, theatre personality SM Mohsin and Dr Rashid Harun, Professor of the Drama and Dramatics Department of JU were present at the discussion session and award ceremony. This year, late Siddiqur Rahman from Brahmanbaria district was awarded posthumously for his contribution to the Puppet community. On behalf of Siddiqur Rahman, his wife received TK 30,000, medal and certificate.
After the award ceremony, Multimedia Puppet Centre from Dhaka and Puppet Lab of Chattogram University presented their puppet show at the event on Thursday.
Beginning on March 19, the five-day festival will come to an end today. 24 troupes from across the country are participating in this festival.
The festival, entry to which is free of charge, starts at 11am today.
