On information that two groups of drug peddlers were exchanging gunshots in the area, a team of Bamondi police camp raided there at around 1:30am, Gangni police station officer-in-charge Obaydur Rahman said.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug peddlers fled the scene.

Later, police found Najmul’s bullet-wound body, and sent it to Meherpur General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations, Obaydur added.

Police also recovered a locally made gun, 1 kg of hemp and a motorcycle from the spot.

Najmul was wanted in at least five cases, the OC added.
